The World Architecture Festival and Inside World Festival Interiors 2021 will now take place online
THEME OF THE 2021 WAF FESTIVAL CONFERENCE: RESETTING THE CITY: GREEN, HEALTH AND URBAN PLANNING
At one level, the idea of greening is about landscaping, biodiversity, and ecological concerns. However, the idea of resetting the city in the context of Covid-19 has taken on new dimensions. Discussion topics will include strategies for clean air, greater use of public transport, water quality and supply, and “clean” energy production as part of urban planning strategies around the world. . The idea of the green city is linked to the concept of sustainability, which now includes ideas on controlling pandemics, and the extent to which health concerns can be integrated into urban planning and design, both small and large. large scale.
In response to travel restrictions linked to COVID-19, we must announce that WAF / INSIDE 2021 will not take place in Lisbon in December but will instead be a fully online event.
While the COVID-19 vaccination program is successfully rolled out in many countries, there are various restrictions and quarantine conditions around the world that would prevent many of our finalists from attending in person. One of the main benefits of WAF is networking, sharing ideas and making new connections. With a large percentage of our finalists unable to travel, the experience would be significantly reduced.
Following the feedback from the finalists and partners, we therefore decided to make WAF / INSIDE 21 a live and interactive digital event.
Live judgments will continue to be the cornerstone of the WAF 2021 digital edition
The WAF 2021 digital event will consist of three days of live conference programs, awards and side events, with lectures from leading global architectural thinkers and industry figures – streamed live exclusively to festival delegates .
The WAF features the world’s largest international architecture awards program, dedicated to celebrating excellence through live presentations to an audience of high-level delegates and international juries. Awards such as “World Building of the Year”, “Future Project of the Year”, “Interior of the Year” and “Landscape of the Year” will be judged live and streamed to festival delegates at worldwide.
With 18 digital review rooms and 18 international judging groups, the WAF 2021 digital event offers the widest access to the largest amount of content in festival history; create 40 days of exclusive programming that will be available to delegates on demand up to 90 days after the event.
The enthusiasm for the introduction of the WAF to the capital of Portugal remains and the WAF 2022 edition will take place in Lisbon from November 30 to December 2 at the FIL exhibition center. Capitalizing on the opportunities opened up by this year’s event, Festival 2022 will include integrated digital elements to form a hybrid festival format, fully suited for digital and in-person delegates.
