Promising two weeks of events meant to inspire, educate and celebrate Liverpool’s architectural community, this is a festival not to be missed.

The festival runs from October 4 to 15 across the city. Activities include social media, workshops and walking tours. Many events are free.

The fun begins with the official LAF Launch + AHMM event on October 4th. The launch party includes a chat between Liverpool City region design champion Paul Monaghan and RIBA President Simon Allford, as well as a tour of the Royal Court Theater by AHMM Architects.

One of the highlights is a symposium on October 13th dedicated to thinking about the future and how the architects of tomorrow will judge today’s buildings.

The Future Listings Symposium begins at 5:30 p.m. on October 13 at One Fine Day on Old Hall Street. It brings together a mix of conservation officers, managers of heritage companies and architects to determine what the listed buildings of tomorrow will be.

Project Officer for Wirral, Knowsley and Sefton Local Lists Alex Starritt, Historic Building Advisor Peter de Figueiredo, MGMA Architects Director Matthew Ashton, Paddock Johnson Architects Director Victoria Alderton, Conservation Officer and Heritage Planning Council of Sefton Agustina Solassi and Hinchliffe will join the symposium event. Director of Heritage John Hinchliffe.

Throughout the festival, various walking tours will be organized, including a tour of the Yoko Ono Lennon Center by those who designed it – Ellis Williams Architects. The walking tour of the University of Liverpool building will take you both through public spaces and behind the scenes. This tour starts at 5:30 p.m. on October 11.

The festival ends with Social Architecture on October 15 in the Mann Island Winter Garden. From 5 p.m. until 10 p.m., the event is not only a time for socializing, networking and celebrating, it is also an opportunity to see an exhibition of the work carried out during the festival. This includes seeing the winners of the Design Charrette event as well as the Liverpool Townhouse Competition, which honors the best design for a post-Covid townhouse.
