In a statement on Wednesday, the BCDA said a total of 71 local swimmers will join the national trials at the world-class aquatic center with the aim of qualifying for the 15th World Swimming Championships of the International Swimming Federation ( FINA) 2021 in Abu Dhabi. , United Arab Emirates in December.
The swimmers are also planning to compete in the 19th FINA 2022 World Championships which are scheduled to be held in Fukuoka, Japan, in May next year, he added.
The PSI event was originally scheduled for August 28-30, as approved by the Interagency Working Group for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases. However, it was postponed due to the increase in COVID-19 cases, which justified the reimposition of stricter mobility restrictions.
“As a home for Filipino athletes, New Clark City is proud to host this swimming event and to help the country’s hopefuls aim for gold in international competitions,” said the BCDA officer in charge. . Aristotle Batuhan.
“Thanks to the PSI bubble, our compatriots can see that the country is on the road to recovery, our athletes serving as icons of determination and strength despite the obstacles,” he added.
In the same statement, PSI President Lani Velasco said the event seeks to inspire athletes to continue their efforts despite the pandemic.
“We hope the event can show young people that we can recover and recover from this pandemic. We hope to encourage current swimmers to train even more to achieve their dreams, ”she said.

The competition will take place at the New Clark City Aquatics Center.
Athletes, coaches and staff joining the event will be accommodated at the Stotsenberg Hotel in the Clark Freeport area in Pampanga.
Batuhan assured that strict health and safety protocols will be implemented during testing.
He recalled that the movements of participants in the bubble will be limited to the hotel and the place of training.
Vaccinated bubble participants should pass an RT-PCR test, followed by home isolation. They will undergo further tests (RT-PCR and antigen) before isolating themselves at the Stotsenberg hotel until the result is known.
In the event that a participant is positive inside the bubble, Batuhan assured that the Stotsenberg Hotel has rooms reserved for isolation. Partner hospitals will also be ready to provide medical care.
The 2021 PSI National Selection Competition is organized by BCDA, its subsidiary Clark Development Corp. (CDC), and PSI, the country’s governing body for aquatic sports.
